Trofeo Guerrita 2024 🇪🇸 – Salida-Alcantarilla – Meta-Alcantarilla : 172,5 km
181 runners, divided among the 26 best amateur teams in the country, took the start at 9:30 in the morning from Calle Mayor of the municipality after keeping a respectful minute of silence in memory of Juan Pujalte, a young cyclist from the Valverde Team-Ricardo Fuentes team who died this week after a serious accident training. Fran Sánchez, general director of Sports of the Region of Murcia; Joaquín Buendía, mayor of the municipality; and Miguel Fernández, president of the Cycling Federation of the Region of Murcia, were in charge of carrying out the protocol tape cut with Diego Sánchez on behalf of the organizing club.
The Russian Lev Gonov (Peña Ciclista Baix Ebre) has won in the XXXIII edition of the Guerrita Trophy – Memorial Juan Romero and Diego Sánchez, second stop of the Elite and under 23 Spanish Cup held this Sunday in the Murcian town of Alcantarilla. The 24-year-old cyclist surpassed his adventure partner Gabriele Raccagni (Polti-Kometa), who has become the new leader of the general standings of the national circuit. Vojtech Kminek (Cortizo), elite leader.
A career with important novelties in his journey, but that maintained the essence that has identified him for more than three decades. To the usual passage through Sierra Espuña, including two ascents to El Cinto and another two through the Alto de la Perdiz, a small final circuit was added to face the climb to the Venta de Belén and thus seek a greater selection in the decisive phase of a test that stretched up to 172 kilometers.
Exit attacks
As every year, the fight for the jersey of the flying goals animated the initial phase of the race. The RussianGrigorii Skorniakov (Ulevel Frutamine) overcame those first two points in the company of Alejandro Merenciano (Esetec-Salazones Ricardo Fuentes), although both would be caught shortly after leaving the municipality. Another Russian, Daniil Kazakov (Controlpack) starred in the most important solo adventure of the day, even reaching 3 minutes apart before entering the chain of ports. The Galicians of Cortizo, who arrived in Murcia with the double lead of the Spanish Cup thanks to their phenomenal premiere a week earlier in the Guadiana Circuit, and the locals of Valverde Team-Ricardo Fuentes carried the weight of controlling Kazakov’s adventure while hardening on the ramps of the first climb to the Perdiz.
That pace reduced the leading group to about sixty units, hunting down Kazakov before heading back to Alcantarilla. Despite the fact that teams like Cortizo had wide representation in that first selection, the lack of control and continuous attacks caused a cut of fourteen cyclists to be formed from which Lev Gonov and Gabriele Raccagni jumped. Both quickly opened an advantage over the minute in the face of doubts behind, despite the fact that Sergio Geerlings (Valverde Team-Ricardo Fuentes) and Álvaro Sagrado (Brocar-Rali) interpenetrated trying to form a quartet at the front.
Cortizo’s effort, which at least served to end the movement of Geerlings and Sagrado, did not prevent Russian and Italian from reaching Alcantarilla with a rent of more than 2 minutes with just over 20 kilometers left. Neither the sustained ramps of the Venta de Belén nor the strong wind shrew down an attack that managed to stand in the streets of the municipality with enough time to play the triumph with clear superiority of a Gonov who became the fourth Russian to prevail in the Guerrita after Syritsa (2022), Grigorev (2017) and Gritsoun (1997).
The large chasing group finished just over 20 seconds away with Haimar Etxeberria (Finisher Team) completing the podium ahead of two other Russians, Ilya Savekin (Controlpack) and Egor Igoshev (Peña Ciclista Baix Ebre). Kazakov got first place in the mountain, Skorniakov in the flying goals and César Pérez (Essax-Arrfran Group), ninth, got on the podium as the first Murcian. The Peña Ciclista Baix Ebre de Tortosa completed its outstanding Sunday in Murcia with the team triumph.
