Thanks to a stunning descent of the Col de Peyresourde, Team Sky’s Chris Froome won stage eight into Bagnères de Luchon and took the yellow jersey. After attacking at the top of the pass, Froome swept clear and finished around 15 seconds clear of second-placed Dan Martin (Etixx-QuickStep), who led in the group containing the rest of the favourites with the exception of Alberto Contador, who had been dropped on the climb of the Peyresourde.
