36th Internationale LOTTO Thüringen Ladies Tour 2024 🇩🇪 (2.Pro) WE – Stage 5 ITT – Altenburg – Altenburg : 31,5 km
The Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour, formerly known as the Thüringen Rundfahrt der Frauen (Women’s Tour of Thuringia) is a stage race for women road cycle racers held every July in the German state of Thuringia. It is rated a class 2.1 event by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI). The title sponsor is LOTTO Thüringen, the state lottery of Thuringia.
Mischa Bredewold (SD Worx-Protime) powered to victory on the stage 5 individual time trial of the Lotto Thüringen Tour, besting Brodie Chapman (Lidl-Trek) by 11 seconds with Christina Schweinberger (Fenix-Deceuninck) third at 22 seconds.
“I have been working on this discipline for years. This win is a reward for the efforts I made together with my trainer and team to get better,” Bredewold said. “A time trial in the elite is completely different than in the juniors. So I’m super happy to take my first time trial victory here in the Lotto Thüringen Ladies Tour.”
Ruth Edwards (Human Powered Health), having been second in the overall standings since breaking away on the first stage with Margot Vanpachtenbeke (Volkerwessels) finally assumed the overall lead, finishing fourth on the stage.
On the opening stage, the pair gained a 2:34 advantage on the peloton who were held up at a level crossing. Edwards still maintains a lead of 2:06 on Bredewold with Schweinberger moving into third at 2:42.
But Bredewold isn’t giving up on the overall yet. “In the first stage we lost a lot of time,” she said. “I’m now second in the general classification. It will be hard to get that time back, but we will make a plan for tomorrow.”
