MTB Swiss Epic 2022 XCM – Stage 1 – Arosa – Arosa : 59 km
The 2022 SPAR Swiss Epic explores the breath-taking trails of Graubünden as it traverses the Alps from Arosa, to Laax before concluding in the now traditional finish in the Race Village of Davos. Taking in 11 700 metres of elevation gain and 11 850 metres of spectacular descending the 2022 SPAR Swiss Epic route totals 359 kilometres in length. Highlights include the magnificent Hörnli and Runca Trails; as well as an ascent to 2 546 metres above sea level on the Urdenfürggli. For teams taking part in the sold-out 2022 edition of the race the spectacular riding will be matched by the hearty Swiss hospitality and the camaraderie of returning to Graubünden’s famed trails once again.
The opening stage of the 2022 SPAR Swiss Epic just scrapes the surface of the of the depths of riding on offer, but includes the very best of the local singletracks. Having twice before teased with sections of the Hörnli Trail, the 2022 edition includes the full 6.8 kilometres and teams will race from the summit, at the Hörnli-Express mountain station 2482 metres above sea level, to the foot of the trail, nearly 600 metres lower in elevation. Stage 1 also includes two close encounters with the four brown bears of the Arosa Bear Sanctuary and a race across the lunar landscape of the Sandböden. Stage 1 is, without doubt, one that’ll be remembered for years to come.
