Circuit de Wallonie 2021 – Charleroi – Charleroi : 194,2 km
Circuit de Wallonie is a one-day race held in the French-speaking Wallonia region of Belgium. It’s one of many one-day races to be held in this hilly part of the country, rubbing shoulders with the likes of La Flèche Wallonne and Liège-Bastogne-Liège on the annual cycling calendar. Unlike these other Wallonian one-day races, the Circuit de Wallonie takes place after the Spring Classics and during the Grand Tour season, meaning most of the top names skip it in favour of an appearance at the Giro d’Italia. It does attract some talented second-tier Classics specialists. The route is tweaked every year, but ever since its first edition in 1966 it has largely followed a hilly circuit that starts and finishes in the town of Charleroi. This circuit contains a handful of short, sharp climbs – the type that this region of Belgium is known for. These climbs make this a race for the puncheurs and Classics specialists, as well as those who are courageous enough to take a risk on the lumpy run into the finish.
