National Championships 2023 – UK – Criterium – Redcar and Cleveland
The British National Championships first launched in 1943 but in their early years they were organised by two competing bodies – the British League of Racing Cyclists (BLRC) and the National Cyclists’ Union (NCU). In 1959 these bodies merged together to create the British Cycling Federation; from then on just one single Championships was held per season, rather than two. The events were still split between amateurs and pros however, right up until 1995 when it was then decided that riders from all backgrounds could take part in one, all-encompassing event.
